the

learnalism project

What We’re Creating

  1. The Learnalism Project involves Vida Samiha’s journalism team (Sophie and Sean, with occasional creative collaborators) visiting, documenting and sharing projects that we see as shining examples of the kind of change our world is calling for.

  1. Over the course of this project, we will travel a route across North America in a vehicle retrofitted to be a mobile office.

  1. While, or immediately after visiting each project,  the team will compile a collage of creative media into a detailed profile to be published on this website.  These profiles might include written articles, photos, short films, and audio clips.  The profiles will offer inspiration and serve as informative how-to guides for social entrepreneurs, activists, students and humans who are interested in learning about and practicing sustainability. We hope to leave our audience feeling inspired, capable, and empowered to be the change they wish to see in the world.

Why Learnalism

  1. So often, when we learn about the pollution, injustice, grief and destruction that is taking place in the world, the message we are left with is that we must "do less bad"- consume less, oppress less, pollute less, sleep less... But we want to explore what it looks like to do more good. Holding in mind the idea that what you channel energy towards, is what you manifest. And so we are asking these questions:

What do we already do in this world that is beautiful, powerful, and sustainable? And how can we empower each other do more of that?

What if we approach learning with an understanding that the earth, and every experience we have on it is a teacher?  What if we could empower ourselves and each other to see, hear, feel, live, and learn the lessons?
